The first concrete building in Estonia, the old bridge of Narva, received a concrete and metal memorial plaque on the Narva river promenade on the initiative of the Estonian Concrete Association. The Narva bridge, built in 1822-29 in the name of Emperor Nicholas I, was the first bridge in Estonia and Russia to use Roman cement, from which the underwater parts of the bridge pillars were cast. 

The design of the memorial plaque and its base is the work of In Nomine creative director Erik Riikoja, the concrete part was made and installed by Nordecon Betoon OÜ, the metal part by Metallfoto OÜ. 

The commemorative plaque for the first concrete building in Estonia was created as part of the activities to mark the 200th anniversary of Estonian concrete construction.

Communication agency In Nomine and event promoter Blue Drum organised an exciting afternoon at the home of forklifts and lift trucks on Tänassilma Road for more than a hundred partners on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the lifting equipment rental company Tõsta.

In an address to the partners, Remo Jõeorg, head of Tõsta, part of the RobiRent Group, said that the company, which started five years ago as a conversation in the Seiklusjuttude pub, has grown by at least 30% every year. In just a few years, Tõsta, which has a slogan of “Get to the top”, wants to become the market leader in lifting equipment rental in Estonia. Remo Jõeorg emphasized the need for a team and partners with the well-known phrase: “Alone we move fast, but together we reach the destination”. Today, 25 experts are involved in lifting equipment rental in Tõsta.

Drum Attack, who descended from the ceiling in a forklift, performed a powerful and energetic drum show for the guests, while Carolina showed off a chilling dance on the chains and DJ Janika played music from the forklift platform. As for various games, the forklift slalom between the cones was the most popular among the guests, with the best forklift driver completing the course in 33 seconds. There were also some slower ones who knocked over cones and earned penalty seconds, finishing in four minutes. There was also a game where guests had to knock a wooden stick off the forklift with some of the guests reaching the stick higher than a normal basketball rim usually is – 3 meters and 5 centimeters! In addition, guests who played a quiz on a laptop learned that a big red forklift can lift a six-tonne load up to 13 meters.

Sony has unveiled the ZV-1 II, the second generation camera in its ZV series of vlog cameras. Boasting a wider angle of view than its predecessor, the ZV-1 II aims to help vloggers create more engaging content with high image quality.

Moreover, the ZV-1 II is constructed with recycled materials such as bamboo, sugar cane fiber, and recycled paper to reduce its environmental impact. The camera is set to be available in June 2023 through Sony authorized resellers at an estimated retail price of 1000€.

In Nomine helped to announce that ventilation solutions manufacturer ETS NORD’s new 9000 square meter production facility in Tallinn’s Peterburi Road, due for completion next year, has received its cornerstone. The total value of the construction is 15 million euros and the main contractor is Mapri Ehitus. With the new factory building, the company aims to increase its sales turnover from 70 million euros today to 125 million euros by 2027.

Urmas Hiie, chairman of the ETS NORD management board, expects the new factory to produce around 20 million euros worth of ventilation equipment a year, which will boost the company’s export potential. “Today, we export 50 million of our products to Scandinavia, 12 million to Estonia and 8 million to other countries. We have grown steadily over the past 25 years, and we have offices in Finland, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates in addition to Estonia. When the new building is completed, we will have 29,000 square meters of production and warehouse space in Lasnamäe, but when we started production here 18 years ago, a 2,800 square meter factory seemed huge,” he says.

Tarmo Roos, CEO of Mapri Ehitus, the builder of the new factory, confirms that building a factory for a top manufacturer requires a lot of hard work. “Estonia is a small country, and most of the time the clients build for themselves, so we are in contact with such demanding clients on an almost daily basis throughout the construction process. We have built several tens of thousands of square meters of factories and were chosen as a construction partner not for the cheapest price, but for our experience.”

ETS NORD AS employs 325 people in Estonia, but together with Scandinavia and the United Arab Emirates it has a total of nearly 500 employees. In 2022, the company had a turnover of 70 million euros.

In Nomine took journalists from Tallinn to see the Jõelähtme landfill. The Jõelähtme landfill of Tallinn Waste Recovery Centre AS is Estonia’s largest producer of compost from biowaste. 

In 2022, 63 000 tonnes of waste was still being landfilled and 109 600 tonnes was being recycled, but by 2030, waste that’s landfilled is hoped to have reduced to 10 000 tonnes – everything must be recycled!

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and global events, Viking Line had a successful year in 2022. The company faced an unfavorable operating environment at the start of the year due to the pandemic and the Russian war in Ukraine, which affected fuel prices and market uncertainty. However, there was a significant increase in demand for travel, especially locally. 

Viking Line sold the Amorella in October and reached an agreement to sell the Rosella in December. The new climate-friendly vessel, Viking Glory, entered service in March and has already made a significant contribution to the company’s results. Viking Line saw a remarkable increase in the number of passengers, with a total of 4 945 564 passengers in 2022, a 114% increase compared to the previous year. The Turku-Åland Islands-Stockholm route experienced the highest increase, with 1 955 988 passengers, a 116.3% increase. However, the upcoming year is expected to be challenging and exciting due to environmental standards and business cycles, but the company remains optimistic about the future.

Renault is introducing the all-new Espace, a 5 or 7-seater car that continues the legacy of the original Renault Espace from 1983. With its driving and safety features, the new Espace aims to provide the ultimate experience for all occupants.

Orders for the new Espace will be available in spring 2023.

The great building competition of the concrete people is over and Järve Towers emerged victorious.

“It is with buildings like these – apartment buildings fitting well into their urban location with high-quality architecture (Martin Aunin) – that modern concrete construction proves its trump cards,” said Aadu Kana, chairman of the competition jury. “Precise, sophisticated and high-quality elements made in a factory, combined with the countless possibilities offered by cast-in-place – this is a perfect example of high-quality cooperation between architects, designers and concrete element manufacturers.”
